    Casares and Finca Cortesín

The municipality of Casares, at the western end of the coast, combines two things that rarely appear together: one of the most beautiful white villages in Andalusia and a resort at the very top of the market. The offering runs from villas within the resort to houses up in the village, at a pace considerably calmer than central Marbella. This is the furthest point we recommend to clients looking on this coast. Further west a different market begins, with different infrastructure and a different journey time.

    Finca Cortesín in three sentences

The estate covers 215 hectares. It holds a championship golf course, host of the 2023 Solheim Cup, a hotel with top Forbes ratings, a private beach club and a collection of villas and apartments. The scale and standard matter here for a practical reason: a resort of this class sustains property values in its surroundings regardless of what happens in the wider municipality. A buyer gains infrastructure that a standalone town of this size would never have built.

    The village on the hill

Casares itself sits inland on a steep slope, its white houses set against the rock, with views over the coast and the mountains. Tourism is gentle here and the cafés are filled mainly by locals. This is the part of the offering that neither Marbella nor Estepona can match: a genuine Andalusian village where nothing has been arranged for visitors. For some buyers that is the main reason to purchase here. It is worth going up before deciding, because photographs do not convey it.

    Why this corner is moving

The new Algarrobico hotel, a widened seafront promenade and approved road upgrades are drawing buyers from central Marbella. The direction is clear: what was the end of the coast ten years ago is now one of its developing parts. The airport transfer takes around seventy-five minutes, on good road the whole way, and it connects to the same network of over 160 destinations that serves the rest of the coast. That distance is precisely what preserves the quiet here, and it means that for a comparable standard you pay less than in the Marbella corridor.

    A year in Casares

The western end of the coast is noticeably calmer out of season than the areas around Marbella. In summer the resort and the beaches run at full capacity, but by October it turns quiet and the village returns to its own rhythm. The climate here is slightly breezier than in the bay of Marbella, given the proximity to the Strait of Gibraltar. It shows on the beaches and is felt on terraces, so it is worth checking how a particular property is sheltered from the west.

    What to check before buying

For properties within the resort, the charges and the scope of services are central: exactly what the service covers, what the fixed costs are, and on what terms the golf, beach club and hotel are used. Those determine the real cost of ownership. Outside the resort, for houses up on the hill, access and services matter most. The road is steep and narrow in places, and properties higher up warrant confirmation of their connections. It is also worth checking winter access after heavy rain.

The calm of the western end

Casares offers a resort standard and a genuine Andalusian village in one place, a combination found nowhere else on this coast. Out of season it is markedly calmer than the areas around Marbella, and the space and views are on an altogether different scale.

Resort Living at the Premium End

    • Solheim Cup championship golf
    • Five-star resort hotel
    • Private beach club
    • White-village authenticity
    Who it suits

Buyers who want a resort standard with golf and service on site, and who deliberately choose calm over proximity to Puerto Banús. It works well for people spending longer stays here several times a year, where an extra half hour from the airport counts for little against the quiet and the space.
